Participate

Audience participation is crucial for this performance. The demands of the performance likely require external contributions in order to achieve its goal of cutting out 35,647 human shapes. No external contribution all but guarantees the performers’ collapse prior to reaching its end.

Participation in this performance can take the form of:

  1. Spreading the word.

Spreading the word about the performance can be done through word of mouth, social media posts/reposts, and spreading informational material by hanging them in public locations, leaving them where they can be picked up, handing them out to people, and sending them via electronic forms of communication.

All digital materials for spreading the word can be found here: spreading the word

    Posters:
*Artists are also welcome to make their own posters for Venerations. The original vector for the paper dolls can be found below in the illustration file containing the template.

  2. Making donations.

Making donations is the most important form of participation as it ensures allocation of physical resources and material means to the Palestinians. Helping the living takes top priority and monetary support is the best way of doing so. Donations will be made to an electronic donation system to be distributed by the performer to predesignated organizations in predetermined quantities.

The donation page can be found here: donate

  3. Physically attending the performance or a pop-up.

Physically attending the performance or a pop-up allows for the greatest breadth of participation. Attendees can collect materials for spreading the word (eg. pictures, informational materials, an anecdotal experience, etc.) and make donations using a QR code and link. Additional forms of participation include: making paper cutouts, mourning collectively, speaking to the performer, and signing the petition.

  4. Mailing cutouts to the performance.

Those who want to participate in bringing physicality to the death toll without having the means to physically visit the performance or its popups can use the electronically provided cutout template to make human shaped pieces of a paper that can be mailed to the performance location: 800 Date Avenue Suite 202, Alhambra, CA 91803, USA. If you are mailing in cutouts, please make sure that they arrive before the end of July, 2024; any cutouts received starting 1 August, 2024 or later risk not being included in the performance.

All paper doll templates, including the original Illustrator files, can be found here: Templates

Below are directions for how to most effectively cut the template. However, everyone is welcome to use their own method.

Cut the paper in two along the dotted line.
Fold paper along verticle solid lines with the uncut side lining up with itself. Do so until all verticle lines have been folded on.

Please only write on one side because the blank side will be the one facing the audience. If more than one side is used, the piece will be discarded.
